David Rhew MD joins Pat Salber () at the 2014 mHealth Summit in Washington DC. We talked about his journey from an infectious disease physician to Chief Medical officer of Samsung. It started because of his research on how to change physician behavior to improve outcomes led him to believe the support needed for change had be automated. Many of the clinical decision support systems (EHRs, CDSS) he initially was involved in developing were all provider-centric. But as the role of the consumer has become more important as care has moved outside of the hospitals to clinics and ultimately into the home, he realized there needed to be much more robust consumer support. So, when he had the chance to join Samsung, he viewed it as an opportunity to guide digital support strategies to enable consumers.

What we loved about this conversation with David is that it is another example of docs popping up in organizations that, in the past, we would not have associated with the need to have physician leaders. Way to go, David! We look forward to what you’ll be achieving as Samsung CMO. Watch the video to learn more.
