How to Do a Google Hangouts On-Air

You will need to have a webcam and microphone (or microphone headset). Check well in advance of the show that your webcam and microphone are working properly.

Please make sure that you position yourself so that the video is not backlit.

Step 1

Make sure that you are using a browser with the Google Hangouts On-air plug-in. This is an additional plug-in exclusively for Google Hangouts On-air.

If you are using the latest Chrome browser, please skip to Step 2.

If you are using Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer, or some other browser, please log into your Google+ account. A plug-in pop-up will usually show up when you log on.

Please download this plug-in for Google Hangouts On-Air to work.

If the plug-in does not show, you will need to click on ‘Hangouts’ under the ‘Home’ tab located on the left of your screen.

On the ‘Hangouts’ page, you will need to create a ‘Hangouts On-Air’ show. Once done, the plug-in should pop-up. Download the plugin then.

Step 2

You will receive an invite from The Doctor Weighs In via e-mail and a Google notification about the scheduled Hangouts On-Air.

**NOTE: This is just an invitation to watch. It is NOT an invitation to join the Hangout.

Step 3

On the date and time of the interview (we will start ~15 minutes earlier to ensure everything runs smoothly), you will receive another e-mail. This new e-mail will allow you to join the hangout.
